Our Dual Role
The GNLSA plays a dual function as: The National Library, serving as the legal depository for all publications produced in The Gambia and safeguarding the nation’s bibliographic heritage. The Public Library, offering reading, research, and educational resources to people of all ages and backgrounds. Together, these services ensure that information and knowledge are accessible to everyone.
Serving the Public
We are committed to providing inclusive and accessible library services across the nation. Our libraries offer: Books, journals, and multimedia materials Study and research facilities Community literacy programs and outreach services Internet and digital resources for education and research Through our network of branches, we make learning and information available to students, researchers, and the general public.
Preserving Heritage
One of our core missions is to collect, preserve, and promote The Gambia’s literary and cultural heritage. We ensure that publications and historical documents are safeguarded for current and future generations, maintaining a vital record of the nation’s intellectual and cultural development.
