The National Bibliographic Service (NBS) ensures that The Gambia meets international standards for bibliographic control.

Its role is to collect, document, and preserve the nation’s published heritage by maintaining comprehensive records of all materials published in or about The Gambia.

Through its services, the NBS supports libraries, researchers, government agencies, and the general public by making bibliographic information easily accessible and reliable.

Our Key Functions

National Bibliography

Compilation and publication of the Gambia National Bibliography, a complete record of materials published within the country or relating to The Gambia.

Legal Deposit

Implementation of the Legal Deposit Act, ensuring that copies of all published materials are submitted to the NBS for preservation and public reference.

Cataloging & Metadata

Creation of accurate and standardized bibliographic records to support efficient information retrieval and national data integration.

Preservation

Archiving of printed and digital materials to ensure their long-term accessibility for future generations.
